How to Increase Ecommerce Sales with SEO

‘Tis the season for amped-up online shopping. From free shipping to one-day shipping and static pricing, how is a consumer supposed to choose the best product for his or her needs? Spending time on Consumer Reports or reading reviews is a great way to spend an hour to save a few dollars, but what makes you click on a business’ webpage in the first place? There are ways to increase your sales with SEO year-round, not just during the holidays.

Read on to learn what SEO is, how to increase e-commerce sales with SEO, and why you should adopt an SEO strategy for your sales pipeline at all.

What is SEO?

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) encompasses over 100 possible algorithmic iterations of what a user might benefit from seeing at that moment from that location. After all, searching for “pants shop near me” should render different results in the US and the UK. (Bonus points if you understand why that search query is humorous.)

At the heart of it, SEO lets the consumer or reader know what the page is selling or what the business offers. This is the bare minimum. If you want to increase sales with SEO your content should be intentional, tell a story, speak with authority, and offer a call to action (CTA) that makes the reader want to take action. Even SAP agrees that e-commerce is the future of commercial sales.

Why Increase Sales with SEO?

Your website is your digital storefront. If you’ve spent the time and money creating it, adding a bookshelf (writing weekly blogs), a few painted walls (images or video on every page), and a waiting area (call to action). Using your website to grow your business passively is an inherently active effort.Image of a person holding a cellphone with text overlay for an article about how to increase ecommerce sales with SEO.

Your keyword choices, headings and subheadings, and even video transcription all help increase your sales with SEO. If it’s something you’re selling currently (goods or services), why not talk about it in a way that educates your readers? Becoming the authority on a service or product line means you have something to share with your reader — and search engines will notice.

The Social Shephard says, “In 2021, retail eCommerce sales were an estimated $4.9 trillion U.S. dollars worldwide. Over the next four years, it’s predicted this number will grow by 56%, reaching approximately $8.1 trillion by 2026.” So if your sales were $100 million in 2021, are you on schedule to reach north of $200 million in 2026? What is stopping you from increasing sales with SEO?

Why SEO?

Often people dismiss SEO as a luxury that is also a non-integral part of their business. However, they soon notice a competitor has a better SERP ranking than them. Worse still, a non-related website ranks higher than a company that invented the widget. If you want to increase sales with SEO, you have to prepare for the long haul rather than the quick fix. Often, Holiday promotions are pushed through the SEO pipeline months in advance. SEO pays off over time, not overnight — SEM would be the overnight.
