Video Content and SEO: 2023 Predictions

In 2021 there were over 45 million daily TikTok users throughout the world. By Q2 of 2022 there were over 1 billion (with a B) daily users on TikTok. Instagram saw similar growth with Reels. Video content is a compelling way to show your authentic self to potential customers. After all, people buy from people, and the brand comes second. If they can relate to your video content, you have a strong candidate for a customer.

Read on to learn more about video content and SEO tips for your marketing plan.

Importance of Video Content

You might have grown up in the era of America’s Funniest Home Videos with 30-second clips of family fun gone wrong — today your children are growing up with TikTok and Reels with 5-59 second videos at their fingertips. Their parents, friends, aunts, uncles, and everyone under the sun has access to this video content, too.

Why is it important? It’s easily shared, commented upon, liked, and saved. And why is that important? It changes their algorithm. It shows them more of what they like (makeup tips) and less of what they don’t (fishing tips). That means your brand has the potential to be part of the algorithm of being shown to relevant clients and not shown to irrelevant viewers. The science isn’t exact since tastes and programming changes, but there’s a greater chance.

Video content encourages people to stay on your website longer. Length of time onsite is one of the many SEO factors. Plus, if they stay on your website they are more likely to make a buying decision.

Overcoming Fear

Being uncomfortable with something new just shows you have room to grow. You can choose not to show your face in your videos, you can hire a professional, or show photos of your products and services with voice overlay. Maybe you can work up to showing your face on camera, then adding in your voice. Voice-dubbing is fun and can be playful, but it’s important to show the authentic you.

Take a deep breath, hire a public speaking coach, and press Record. In the end people will see 100s of videos and likely forget what you were wearing, if you had an “umm” or “uhh” and choose to take what they want from what you share. Practice makes perfect and try creating video content that you would like to see, then create the content your audience wants to see.

5 Video Content Predictions for 2023

While predictions are just that, predictions, this is what we see happening in 2023.

  1. Video content on Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook will increase by 22-25%
  2. The meta description in your video content will help you rank more than the subject matter (AI readers)
  3. Hashtags will matter less than they did in 2022
  4. Actual voice (not lip dubbing) videos will have the most positive impact on your followership
  5. Thought leadership content will matter less than tutorials or product features

As a reminder, meta descriptions is what the algorithms read when they crawl your images, videos, blog, and website. If you’ve ever seen where an image should be and it comes up blank you may see something like “picture of a businesswoman for a page about women-owned businesses.” This also helps people with certain disabilities have an understanding of your page.

How to Create Video Content

Creating video content isn’t difficult unless you make it difficult. In all likelihood you have a camera with you 24/7 — it’s in your smartphone, on your laptop, or tablet. There are free video editing software available if you don’t have one on your computer (like iMovie).

First things, first. Start small and record a 5-second video introducing yourself. You don’t have to share it, only film it. Watch it and look for what you like and dislike. Then do it again.

For your second video aim for 15 seconds about what you do and talk about how it solves a clients’ problem. Then, look at what you like and dislike again. At any point re-record what you like and improve upon what you dislike.

You can build up from there as you feel more confident. Again, practice makes perfect.
